Self Discovery is the Best Discovery
In the US, we will be celebrating Columbus Day on Monday in remembrance of the day that America was discovered. I started thinking about all of the discoveries I’ve made so far in my life, and realized that self discovery has been the greatest path that I’ve stumbled upon. Exploring who we are and why we are here is an amazing gift that we can give to ourselves, and to the world. It is a lifelong, ever-changing process, and the digger we deep, the more precious the jewels we discover. Here is a journal exercise that you can use to get your own self discovery journey started!
Set aside some quiet time to yourself where you can be alone with your thoughts. Pour your favorite cup of tea, light a candle, and grab your journal. Read through the following questions and take some time to reflect on these topics. Choose one question to focus on, or answer them all! There are no right or wrong answers here, and the process is part of the journey.
Who and what do I love?
What do I stand for? What makes me angry? What am I passionate about?
What brings me joy? How can I do more of that?
What comes easily to me? What am I naturally talented at? What could I do for hours without getting bored?
How would I spend an ideal day?
What are my gifts and special talents? What am I really good at?
What struggles have I been through and overcome? What lessons did I learn? Knowing that “the wound is the place where the light enters”, how did these experiences enlighten me?
What am I still struggling with? What challenging patterns, situations, and people keep showing up and repeating themselves in my life? What could they be trying to teach me?
Get real with your answers. Ask hard questions. Discover yourself. Listen to your inner wisdom. Find your true purpose. Life gets so much more beautiful when we get honest with ourselves and start to search for the answers within us. They will show us the way to where we need to go.
Wishing you a week of awareness and discovery.
Be well,
Ambar
